BARTÓK
The Finest Way to Offend You (Gamma Pop Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
I wonder if hearing Americans singing in other languages badly sound as cool
to the people that actually speak that language as hearing people from other
countries sing songs in broken English do to me? I wonder how many people
reading this can guess that yes, I am a high school drop-out? Anyway, this
is a really strange and cool combination of near-classical and jazz-heavy
instrumentals and spoken word/songs from a bass-cello-piano-drums-electronic
ensemble from Italy, and the way their heavily-accented lead singer croons
his way through these songs invokes Serge Gainsbourg and Iggy Pop all at
once, spooky and beautiful and creepy and sexy.
