FAKE BRAIN
Push (W.A.B.N.A.R.C.)

Kind of a cute punk-pop ensemble with songs about fairly adolescent topics (i.e., lots of not-so-subtle sexual innuendo, nosepicking, the horrors of the corporate world and, oh no, selling out). The greatest part of this record, however, is not their own songs, but their fabulous rendition of Christina Aguilera's "What a Girl Wants", and yes, I know she's an easy target, but it's nice to see someone taking an obvious step and making it work so well. Kind of a cross between a guitar-heavy They Might Be Giants and Ween with more feedback, Fake Brain's got a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor that makes them stand out from your ordinary smart-kid college band.
