FU MANCHU
California Crossing (Mammoth)
Reviewed by Jason

My friend, Scott, recently left the superb Costa
Mesa pop merchants Smile to play drums for this
band of perpetual Spicolli's. Stoner-Rock kinda
came and went, and this is probably why. Nothing
about this album held my attention for one
second - not that it's badly played at all. It's
just so drab and uninspiring. The drummer here,
Brant Bjork, is now supposedly in Queens Of The
Stone Age, and probably kicking himself in the
nuts daily for wasting so much time with these
dorks. Oh, and their infatuation with all things
late-70's is getting old rather expeditiously. California Crossing is a lot
like a person who laughs loudly at their own
jokes, alone.
