HYDROPLANE
The Sound of Changing Places (Drive-In Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This is an absolutely beautiful album, with instrumental pieces made up of
waves of very pretty synth and computer noise washes (courtesy of Andrew
Withycombe)and near-acoustic bits with a fabulous female singer (Kerrie
Bolton) whose voice blends into the washes like she was part of the keyboard
selection herself. Some of the computer noises are a little irritating,
because they sound like the "beep" my computer makes when I've hit a no-no
key, and listening to this disc while trying to write was like having
someone shout "no no not that way" over my shoulder at the most
inappropriate moments, but aside from that, this is real nice.
