SELFMINDEAD
At The Barricades We Fall (Solid State)

Named perhaps after a member of the Rubi Dragon
squad (from Anarchy Online), Selfminded has some
fantastic, random, lanky bursts of riffola, all
of which bring to mind Fugazi era 2401 A.D. The
vocals grated on me though, and just seemed like
they're fairly secondary, or lesser to what the
band is attempting to get across. It ended up
being just some dull hollering & bitching about
friends letting the singer down, and other social
travesties.
"Can't believe what you say, you fraud,
I can see right through you!"
The eleven tracks do pile up quite nicely
regardless, but would have been better suited to
a) somebody who could actually fucking sing or at
least yell in key, or b) an instrumental album.
Hey, the sans-verbal affair works for Godspeed.
"I'm getting bored with this
culture."
I'm getting-gotten bored with Emo myself, and the
adhesive residue of that
culture is what keeps me from recommending this.
Maybe next time.
GRADE: C+ (efinite-day otential-pay).
