SLICK SHOES/COOTER
California & New York (Militia)

A novel idea: the split CD. Will that eventually
replace the split seven-inch that bands normally
utilize? At first I thought: "What a
funny name! Slick Shoes & Cooter. They must have
a laugh having the clubs get their name
right."
No, despite the fact that these two bands sound
like they could easily be covering one another's
songs, California & New York comprises
two EPs. Very well played, metallic pop-punk by
both bands. Slick Shoes has more metal in their
sound, but I could easily see either of these
bands on Fat Wreck Chords, or supporting the
Vandals on tour. Cooter has a more
Descendents-like quality, while Slick Shoes are
more into the very Biohazard/Anthrax
gang-of-guys-backing-vocals-style. Decent for
what it is, but not breaking any new ground here
at all. Very five years ago.
