DAVID HARLOW
The Brief History Of The Life Of David Harlow
(Bloodred Records)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

"In six volumes," to complete the rather lengthy title, David Harlow's little half hour opus is well worth the time, even though he lies, and sneaks in a seventh track, the cad. Ok it's a stripped down version of the opening track, so it doesn't really count. Anyhoo, what we have here is a mini pop masterpiece. An unabashed collection of songs brimming with heart, emotion and beauty. Every now and then you happen upon a real songwriter, and David Harlow is one. No matter how sappy or sentimental the material is, and we have plenty o' love songs here, Harlow crafts his pop nuggets with such inviting verve that you just can't help but get caught up in the game. There's even a blatant tear jerker about missing his daughter while she goes to school - talk about pulling emotional strings. Excuse me, ah, there's something in my eye.
