HAYSEED DIXIE
Kiss My Grass - A Hillbilly Tribute To Kiss (Dualtone)

Reviewed by Shaun Dale

What started out with a disc of bluegrass versions of AC/DC songs, an effort the band assures us has reached double-copper status, has become a hillbilly phenomenon. Kiss My Grass is the third release by the trio of Barley Scotch, Talcum Younger and Enus Younger (AKA John Wheeler, Don Wayne Reno and Dale Reno), who apply their talents on guitar, fiddle, mandolin and banjo to a selection from the collected works of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

They obviously have fun doing this, and you're going to have a lot of fun listening to it. Wheeler and the Reno brothers are, in fact, outstanding pickers, and their arrangements are impressive and affectionately rendered. In fact, in at least a couple of instances, I prefer the Hayseed Dixie interpretations to the originals. Maybe more than a couple.

I think I'll get a refill of fuel/beverage and listen again....hey, I might like the whole damn thing better than any other damn thing by the time I'm through.
