JUNGLE BROTHERS
All That We Do (Caroline)

They may have been leading the pack with 1989's
Done By The Forces of Nature and been proud to rhyme about the
virtues of safe sex. They were also among the
first rap crews to ever release a full-length
album. But it would appear the duo have forgotten
from whence they came. The same thing happened
with Tribe and De La Soul. Go away awhile, and
while you're legacy is respected, you don't have
a place among the likes of Rasco, MF Doom, and
Murs. It's been years since the Jungle Brothers
have done anything, and the hip-hop world moves
so fast that the old guard truly sounds exhausted
when they try for a comeback. Why break any new
ground when you can kick a lazy verse about doin'
"my duty in your bootie, cuz it's lookin' juicy."
Afrika and Mike G are veterans, but step to the
soiled microphone like new jacks eager to prove
themselves. Glancing at the cd I was delighted
not to find the omnipresent "Intro" track, but
the opening number did carry on for three and a
half tedious minutes before the album gained any
momentum. Why is it that some hip-hop records
seem like ancient cars that you have to warm up
before going anywhere? This one didn't even make
it out of the driveway.
