SONNY LANDRETH
The Road We're On (Sugar Hill)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

As guitarists go, you can't get much better than Sonny Landreth. His technical string bending can be heard on albums by Dolly Parton, John Hiatt and Shelby Lynn, but Landreth is really a Stevie Ray Vaughn in waiting. The well worn session man tries damn hard to break the mold with a jumping blues record. Landreth picks and slides and chugs and boogies like nobody's business, putting on a formidable guitar show. Folks'll slap their knees at his prowess. They'll shake their heads. And then they'll move on.
