ARRANMORE
The Collection (Toucan Cove)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Arranmore's Toucan Cove debut is a fifteen year retrospective that reflects the group's roots as a Chicago Irish pub band and reflects the broader horizons they've embraced over the years, with pop and country sounds joining pub favorites like "South Side Irish" on their set lists.
The seventeen tracks seem generous at first, but they're all needed to capture a picture of the multi-dimensional sound of the band through its various incarnations over the course of a decade and a half. It's a totally entertaining selection that displays a history that leaves you anxious to hear what's next. Here's hoping for a fresh disc of new material by today's Arranmore soon, but in the meantime, here's a great way to catch up.
Track List:
Sweet Memories * Dreamers On The Rise * Maggie * One Kiss * Farewell To Carlingford * As I Leave Behind Neidin * I&M Canal * Summerfly * South Side Irish * Dad * My Hometown * The Dimming Of The Day * Rollin' And Ramblin; * The 'Derry Aire (Danny Boy) * It's Worth Believing * Son Of The Soil
