OLGA
Blues Babe (219 Records)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
In the last issue of Cosmik Debris, I shouted about Olga's newest release on her own 219 Records. My original plan was to have this review of Blues Babe accompany her other outstanding CD, Kiss Your Blues Away, but I blew that deadline. This month, I'll recommend Blues Babe to complete your collection of Olga's music. Olga is a young blueswoman who now calls the Crescent City home after growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. "Gotta Put My Hands On You" oozes passion, while "Leaving So Soon" is a sparse whisper of a song built around Olga's sultry vocals and some deceptively simple bass parts. Check out Olga's sound samples online at www.laolga.com, and you'll discover a bright young blueswoman with talent to spare trying make it in the blues. Later this month, she'll be on the Thacker Mountain Radio show in Oxford, Mississippi, followed by a Florida tour with one of America's brightest blues pioneers out of Clarksdale, Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Knockdown Society, Buddy Guy).
