JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION
Xtra ACME USA (Matador)
Reviewed by John

Y'all know that a remix album from the Blues Explosion is a livin', breathin', copulatin'
entity unto itself, and will force over that hard earned booze money to the local record
entrepreneurs. Jon Spencer keeps his ominous wail, but the instro part of the Explosion is
manipulated all over hell's acre. With slinky knob twiddlers like Moby and Calvin Johnson doin'
the damage, ya know the proceedings are gonna be good an' sweaty. Spencer shakes the new with
the old like no other: check the groovy delta jive of "Calvin" with help from fife maestro Otha
Turner. But before you spin the disco ball skip to the last track for a hilarious radio spot
for ACME. Just to keep ya shakin' an' shimmyin' a while longer, this beast comes on two vinyl
slabs. And ya know with Mr. Spencer that more is indeed more.
