LOOPER
Up A Tree (Sub Pop)

Belle and Sebastien's Stuart David strikes out on a side project that combines the soft moments
of his parent band with some darn right uppity tunes (complete with turntable scratches). The
music has that endearing fragile quality B&S fans will covet, but the scope is a wider one. The
magic comes when David adds his lovely Scottish narrative to the tunes. Looper begins reflects
the poignant Tindersticks, and the innocent fun of early Undertones. Of all the name dropping
here, I cannot get the film Gregory's Girl outta my head when listening. It has that same
charm, and I suppose, the thick Scottish accent is something of a drug.
