The Ohio Players embodied much of what was both good and bad about funk/soul music in the 70s. When they got funky, they did it with as much sting and flair as Earth, Wind and Fire and The Gap Band. On the other hand, when they went the love song route, as they far too often did, they oozed sacharine and synthetic flowers, offering up sentiments like "there's no place like you." This collection gives you some of each, including the 70s staples "Love Rollercoaster," "Fire" and "Skin Tight," along with a few of the sappiest songs you'll ever hear, like "Happy Holidays Pt.1" and "Heaven Must Be Like This." A mixed bag, but when it's good, it's very good.
