Music For Our Mother Ocean 3 (Surfdog/Hollywood)

The Surfrider Foundation lined up 23 top names to create 21 great tracks
for the third installment of their benefit album series, the proceeds of
which are dedicated to cleaning up beaches, oceans and preserving marine
species. A good cause, to be sure, and it's supported by some great
music.
The disparity in the artist/track numbers is the result of a couple of
pairing that create a couple of the best tracks here. Brian Setzer
joins Brian Wilson for the Beach Boys classic "Little Deuce Coupe," and
Setzer's contribution energizes Wilson to good effect. Similarly, Snoop
Dogg joins members of Rage Against The Machine for a version of "Snoop
Bounce" that displays the best qualities of each half of the
combination.
There are some things you'd likely expect here (Paul McCartney & Wings
"Wild Life" or Jimmy Buffett's "Sea Cruise") and some you wouldn't (the
Butthole Surfer's "Summer In The City" or Everclear's "Walk Don't Run")
and there's something to please almost anyone. In fact, there's not
much here likely to disappoint anyone, and even if a particular band or
track isn't right up your particular musical alley, well, there's the
cause to be considered.
Give the beach a break and get some good new tunes in the process. It's
the right thing to do.
