THE HOLMES BROTHERS
Speaking In Tongues (Stony Plain)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Funny how the ageless wonders of gospel music find resurrection with each and
every release. This time around The Holmes Brothers borrow fresh material (three
tunes) from Ben Harper and give it a traditional Baptism. The added church soul
converts "Homeless Child", "I Shall Not Walk Alone" and "I Want To Be Ready"
into the Sunday morning classics they so richly deserve to be. There's something
truly heavenly about the trio's harmonies that brings new dimensions to any song
you think you've heard. Check out the thrilling take on the old O'Jays' classic
"Love Train", and tell me otherwise.
