There's not much here with the vigour and oomph that laced previous efforts, but despite the sonic rein Eleni Mandell has created a very powerful beast. Having X drummer D.J. Bonebreak along for the ride, but giving him marimba and vibes for tools should be a clue. Close and very serious inspection reveals Snakebite to be a toothy record, brimming with colourful moods, exotic instrumentation and a sensual film noire vibe. Life is a cabaret my friends! Well, maybe not life, but this'll transform an otherwise dull forty-two minutes into something special. Gee I got through that without once mentioning Tom Waits.
