FU MANCHU
California Crossing (Mammoth)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
The chug-chug-chug of the Chu is an undeniable force in the annals of stoner rock. Perfecting the fine balance of psychedelic sludge and boot-to-the-groin anthemic heavy mental (putting the bong in Deep Purple), Fu Manchu deliver the goods. As essential as 3 a.m. pizza, the music is the perfect compliment to a hazy night of hard partying, where time stands very still. Cow bells anyone? You bet. Oh yeah, Fu Manchu, the reigning gods of the genre by virtue of inexplicable longevity, have a new record out.
