GEORGE STRAIT
The Millenium Collection (MCA)

You younguns who listen to nothin' but "young country" get your fake boots on and scoot off to where ever you get your CDs and pick up this 12 song best of. It's barely a taste of this incredibly important artist's output, but it should be enough to send you back for some real meaty collections or, better yet, the full releases the hits came from. Why? Because even the songs George Strait considers filler would relegate most of today's country hits to B-sides or trash cans. These 12 songs were all #1 on the country charts between 1984 and 1993, and Strait chose the songs himself, which gives it an interesting bit of additional charm. The guy's something special, and given a limited number of songs, these are the ones he wants us to hear. That offers some insight into what moves the man. This is in that "nice price" range, so it's an easy way to get hooked on a habit worth forming. Then get strung out on the 4-CD collection called Strait Out Of The Box. You'll thank me. Unless you think Brooks & Dunn are just way too country, in which case you're reading the wrong review anyway.
