MODJO
self-titled (MCA)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Parisians Yann Destagnol and Romain Tranchart have assembled a pastiche of
house, pop and old school disco for their initial release as Modjo, and it's
an impressive debut. While they're pictured with guitars, they make
generous use of samples, synths and sequencers in the production of their
music, but whatever technology or instrumentation is at play, they never
lose sight of the central fact that good pop music is constructed from good
songs. Modjo offers good songs. Danceable tracks you can sing along to,
great party music, great driving music, great stuff anytime the mood calls
for energy and an uplifting spirit.
