Forever In Bluegrass - Tribute To Neal Diamond (CMH)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Another collection from the exceptional crew of pickers at CMH, Forever In
Bluegrass is one of the better efforts in the seemingly endless series of
"Pickin' On" releases from the label. The musicianship on every CMH release
is impeccable, but the pickers are at their best when they get ahold of the
best material, and there are few better melodists in the biz than Neil
Diamond. Although his own versions of his songs sometimes suffer from
overproduction and/or overwrought performance, there's a great tune at the
heart of every Neil Diamond hit, and the CMH pickers focus on the tunes.
I'm a Neil Diamond fan, myself, and a CMH fan, and I can't think of a better
pairing. If you like either the writer or the performers, or just enjoy
hearing great acoustic pickers stretching out, this one's worth checking
out.
