ASHLEIGH FLYNN
Chokecherry (Home Perm Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Nice, kind of funky collection of pop music fronted by vocalist/guitarist
Ashleigh Flynn. Flynn's voice works well with all these songs, and she sings
like someone definitely aware of her vocal limitations and stays right where
she sounds best, all the time, sounding like a comfortable cross between
Suzanne Vega and Liz Phair. The music is an interesting collection
of acoustic folk, danceable techno, and poppy, nightclub-style jazz, making
for an eclectic album that stretches itself stylewise but still sounds like
a complete album and not a collection of mismatched singles.
