BRITTA PHILLIPS AND DEAN WAREHAM
L'Avventura (JetSet)

Dean goes Euro cool! With long time Bowie knob twiddler Tony Visconti at the helm, Dean Wareham slips effortlessly into Serge Gainsbourg territory, imbibing in a romantic vocal duel with Britta Phillips. The carefree silky pop with underlying darkness is reminiscent of Lee Hazelwood's partnering with Nancy Sinatra, but make no mistake, Wareham's unique voice and vision seep through. He hasn't had a female vocal partner since his days with Galaxy 500, Phillips concentrating on her bass duties in Luna. With those walls of guitars torn down we find a stripped Wareham to be a debonair leading man of the first order, and Phillips the perfect cooing foil. Who knew? Amoré all around!
