DYNAMITE BOY
Devoted (Offtime Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Melodic punk four-piece with big, loud, driving, matching bass and guitar
lines, harmonizing vocals shared between band members and fairly decent
percussion. The songs are all love songs, which I suppose ties in with the
album title, without even one song thrown in about politics or questioning
authority or the validity of Wisconsin - just love songs, including a cover of
Simple Mind's "Forget About Me." It's a pretty short CD (20 minutes), one
which I would be more comfortable calling an EP than an album, but I guess
if you're hailing back to the old punk rock tradition of ultra-quick songs,
this fits in with that whole grand scheme (although it's also part of that
tradition to put 10 - 20 songs of this length on one record).
