IMITATION ELECTRIC PIANO
Trinity Neon (Drag City)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Delivering suave electropop without slipping into kitschy self-parody is a coup. Add Imitation Electric Piano to the list of few. Mainly instrumental, this easy on the ears record blends gentle guitar riffs with, you guessed it, electric piano (of the Hammond and Casio variety), but it also sprinkles the plate with some lovely surprises (trumpets, dulcimers, bells). Keeping it simple and spright is the key here. And by the way this project is the brainchild of Simon Johns from the late great Stereolab. Oh NOW you're paying attention ...
