THE MERCENARIES
The Last Resident in a Tourist Town (Spare Me)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Goofy, happy-sounding rock music with a nice beat and good instrumentation
and lyrics about being a working stiff, love, and confusion with the world
in general. There's not a lot here that makes this band stand out from other
good bar bands that do this kind of standard rock, but they are pleasant to
listen to, even when they're trying to be too serious to take seriously,
like in the horn-driven, hook-laden, infectiously happy-sounding song about
child abuse called "Brand New Dad," or in their one bad attempt at reggae
music, "Big 4 Inch."
