THE MISSING 23RD
The Powers That Be (Sessions Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
This is exactly the sort of thing I would have bought and listened to when I
was 14 - about 20 years ago. It sounds so much like Minor Threat and 7
Seconds and the rest of those bands it's eerie, down to the worldview
concerns of those bands of the '80s: fighting authority, the evils of
commercialism and consumerism, and how dumb everyone else is compared to the
lead singer of the band. It's both refreshing and nostalgia-inspiring, and I
wonder how many 14-year-olds out there today are going to latch onto this
band the way I probably would have.
