THE MYSTERY GIRLS
self-titled (Trick Knee)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
Who were the Mystery Girls, you might ask? Well, besides being the name
of a great New York Dolls song, they are also a really cool
garage-punk band from Green Bay, Wisconsin. While the Dolls would be
an obvious comparison, there's much more here. They draw on a lot of
the same blues and R&B music that the Dolls likely drew on, and
there's plenty of wailing harp (courtesy of both the singer and one of
the guitarists!), not to mention some sweet organ playing on certain
tracks. Most of all, though, this is just really good rock and roll.
