THE ROTTERS
Wrench To The Nuts (Dionysus)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
The first new Rotters album since the Presumed Dead in Japan LP
from 1989, or at least of new recordings anyway. Dionysus has put
out a couple of retrospective releases, Pull It and Yell! and What
We Do Is Stupid, both of which are chock full of obnoxious punk
ditties. You may remember these guys also from appearing on Killed
By Death and Screaming Fists boot compilations with their '70s
punk masterpieces " Sit On My Face Stevie Nix," "Amputee," "Sink the
Whales (Buy Japanese Goods)" and "Disco Queen." The only original
Rotter here is guitarist Phester Swollen, who is joined on this by
recent recruits Bob Lee (ex-Clawhammer) on lead vocals and drumming,
and La Jaime on the bass.
That said, this CD is true to the Rotters' original spirit, with great
obnoxious and satirical punk songs like "Bible Belt 12 Gauge," "White
Trash Slut," "My Penis Hurts" and the insanely titled "Please Don't
Probe Me With The Butt Scope Doctor." They also do great remakes of a
couple of their older tunes, "Thank God I'm Damned" and "Pink
Flamingos." With more and more bands being called punk these days
that sound like they never heard a punk record in their life, this is
a welcome release.
