TOM TOM CLUB
The Good The Bad The Ugly (Ryko)

Reviewed by John Sekerka

The timing couldn't be any better, as the Tom Tom Club comes out of a decade long hibernation to inject some funk back on to the listless dance floor. Techno beats, house remixes and jungle rhythms be gone, for people just wanna shake their hips damn it! This Talking Heads offshoot continues to deliver bright, catchy tunes: adorable fast food music nuggets, easily digestible, addictive ... pure fluff. The bass is a little fatter this time, there's some table scratching going on, and a noticeable dub influence is pervasive, but the childish, colourful, cuddly pop fun of the Tom Tom Club remains well in tact. And yes, they slip a disc-o with a nice version of "Love To Love You Baby." Oh baby.
