BUCKETHEAD
Some Where Over The Slaughterhouse (Stray)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
If listening to a reclusive giant who only performs behind a Jason Halloween
mask and sports a KFC bucket for a hat sounds enticing, then Buckethead is yer,
er, man. Apparently Buckethead was part of the revamped Guns 'n Roses, but
that's another story. He also plays with New York avant jazz hipsters, but
that's another story. Here's the story that matters: Buckethead is a monster
guitar god who takes all the brilliant excesses of the wank axe, leaving those
noodling long hairs in the dust, and delivers a messy yet tight collage of
instro mayhem that will have heads spinning. There are enough eerie sound bites,
ominous beats, industrial snippets and creepy mood swings to make this a horror
masterpiece. Still it has enough charm to prick up almost any ear. This is where
you scurry for the headphones. A clever little opus disguised as a nasty guitar
massacre. Very nice.
