HOT WATER MUSIC
A Flight And A Crash (Epitaph)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Hot Water Music is a Florida band, formed in Gainseville, but forget any
ideas that might immediately put in your mind. First assembled in 1994,
they pre-date the SoFlo pop invasion
and they're a tight, tough unit firmly planted in the second generation punk
mainstream. No latter day pop/punk affectations for these guys - they keep
it real and keep it up.
A Flight And A Crash is their 6th full length release, and they show the
kind of growth that you'd hope for for any band that has survived to achieve
that landmark, but longtime fans needn't despair. This is yer good ol' punk
rock, kids, full of DIY spirit. Epitaph is smart enough to let these guys
do what they do, without calling for conformity to the SoCal sound that made
the label a relative giant in the punk world. Musically, you'll get the
best of a great band. Commercially, you'll probably find it a lot easier to
get the best of a great band.
Rumors of the imminent death of punk rock music have been in circulation for
a quarter of a century now. Releases like A Flight And A Crash just keep
proving them wrong.
