CAVE IN
Tides Of Tomorrow EP (Hydra Head)

Cave In's newest EP Tides of Tomorrow is a surprisingly diverse disc, showcasing an enigmatic rock quartet from New England. Founding member Steven Brodsky's songwriting turns from crunchy and forlorn to tropical and lightly tanned on a dime throughout the short disc, inviting a pocketful of possibilities for their forthcoming LP due out early 2003.

"Come Into Your Own" is the EP's strongest track, with it's murky driving riffs and haunted vocals. Coupled with "Dark Driving," a foreboding and sinisterly familiar note left to disillusionment, the two songs represent Cave In doing what they do best: baring big, gnashing teeth. Cave In sounds best when they have someone or something to get even about. Much like Jar of Flies era Alice In Chains, the strongest moments on Tides of Tomorrow come hard, fast and out from behind an unflinching sneer.
