EYES ADRIFT

The reunion of ex-Meat Puppet Curt Kirkwood and ex-Nirvana Chris Novoselic, last seen together on the latter band's MTV unplugged session, comes with surprisingly little fanfare. Don't expect any Nirvana magic, Eyes Adrift is basically the Meat Puppets mach III: a Curt Kirkwood manned power psychedelic trio with the ability to dispense beautiful ballads and full frontal southern fried boogie. Kirkwood hasn't lost his writing edge and continues to forge a remarkable catalogue of alternative anthems. "Solid" and "Telescope," sprawling tunes (one soft, the other tough) cut with the Puppets' unmistakable Arizona dessert feel, will no doubt ride the charts if given the chance. What Novoselic adds, besides bass and vocals on three tracks, is a bit of a mystery.
