HERE ARE THE FACTS YOU REQUESTED
Felt (Elevator Pop Gallery)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Progressing nicely (some call it maturing) from their quirky beginnings, San Francisco's HATFYR are evolving into a serious pop band. A serious pop band that still knows good music should be fun. Felt may seem like a muted version of the band, especially when confronted by the bouncy debut disc, but there is magic deep in these subtle grooves I tell ya. Akin to Jay Agnish (over on the other coast, another artist you never heard of, but should), HATFYR just grows and grows on you. Like unchecked moss: all soft, warm and fuzzy, the new slab has an influx of innocent soul, and sometimes, say on the fab "Pony," transcends several genres in that all too rare bit of music lightning. Deep listening reveals delicate layers, charming aural surprises and hooks where before there were none. It's a record of discovery by dang it, and if given half a chance, and at least a half dozen spins, you'll get the picture too. Bands are still creating studio wizardry and here's the proof.
