THE OPERATORS
Citizens Band (Unstoppable)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Hoppy and boppy and way too talky, with lots of lecturing and screaming
about drinking and optimism and how deluded people are to sell out and grow
up, with chick vocalists obviously heavily influenced by Sleater-Kinney and
other Kill Rock Stars bands. These kids think they're just so damned smart,
and I don't like that. There are liner notes in Cyrillic, which I don't
read, a tricky little coding system apparently telling what band member
played what instrument - I didn't feel like spending the time to sit and
puzzle my way through that mess - and then there's the music itself. I was
promised there was an accordion on this, dammit, but found my enthusiasm
quickly waning while wading through the piles of guitar noodling and
screaming to get to it.
