RHETT MILLER
The Instigator (Elektra)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Though there is no mention of the dissolution of the Old 97's, ya gotta wonder when the guy in charge decides to put out a solo record. Especially since the record shows Rhett Miller is (was?) the voice and guiding force behind the group. The Instigator sure sounds like a band album, and not like a solo excursion. Miller is clearly testing new thematic waters, more personal introspective stuff, but there's no escaping his unique vocal and addictive guitar hooks. Besides, Rhett is a cool name, and it would be a shame not to see it up in lights. Look out Ryan Adams.
