YOUNG AND SEXY
Stand Up For Your Mother (Mint)
Reviewed by Holly Day
Oh, now, this band has completely restored my faith in little, unknown bands
and music in general. The company of Paul Pittman (vocals, guitar), Lucy
Brain (vocals), Ron Teardop (percussion), Ted Bois (keyboards), and Andrew
J. Lagace (guitar) have created an album that is both exquisite in its
melancholic nature and wonderfully upbeat and full of hope and optimism.
When they sing about the beauty inherent in ugly buildings and cities, you
really believe that these qualities exist in all cities, and when Pittman
sings about how he's recovered completely from a lost love, you really don't
believe him, even though you hope that he does. The arrangements are quiet
and calm, beautifully orchestrated works with stand-out guitar and piano
interludes that make it hard to decide whether the wonderful lyrics are what
makes the songs, or the music itself.
