Book: Foods That Don't Bite Back

Author Sue Donaldson provides a generous helping of information in Foods That Don't Bite Back. First, that information comes in the persuasive argument on numerous levels for the commitment to a vegan lifestyle. Only a smattering of facts about the meat industry are presented here, but they are sufficient to turn the stomach of almost any carnivore short of John Wayne. The second wealth of information is in her recipes. Donaldson is wise in her demonstration of the potential in what to some might seem a diet limited by variety and season. They are simple, colorfully elegant and well balanced foods, the favorites being a curried rice and tempeh salad and squash stew. Foods That Don't Bite Back is a resource as much as it is a cookbook. From the delicious summer gazpacho to stuffed grape leaves, these options can provide a new series of options for chefs of all persuasions as well as expand the repertoire for those already engaged in the vegan lifestyle.
