DVD: Profiler: Season 1 (A&E)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
Profiler was the series that started the ball rolling for much of the
contemporary crime drama of the last few years. CSI, CSI Miami, Crossing
Jordan and others can trace their lineage directly to the adventures of Dr.
Samantha Waters, Agent Bailey Malone and their special task force of
criminal investigators.
For some of us, though, there's nothing like the original, and A&E has
packed nearly 18 hours of it into a 6 DVD set that chronicles the series from its pilot through the end of its first groundbreaking season. They've augmented the shows with an episode of the A&E American Justice series that provides background on the role of profiling in modern investigation, audio
commentary on the pilot by both Ally Walker (Waters) and Robert Davi
(Malone), a photo gallery and cast biographies.
The features are all fine, but this package is really about the shows.
Their success in syndication proves that they're worth watching over and
over, and there's simply no better format to do it than these DVDs.
