DVD: Zeke
Zeke You (Dead Teenager)

Reviewed by DJ Johnson

Seattle's Zeke? Oh sure! They went THATAWAY, really really fast, about 37 seconds ago, and if you turn around, they should be comin' up from the OTHER way in another 30 seconds, just in time to end their song.

Seriously, a minute seven is like "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida" long for Zeke, but since they're playing at 2,000 beats per minute, they actually have several verses in there. And yet in ten years as a band there've been no deaths, no string-related dismemberments, no spontaneous combustions. The mind boggles.

Zeke You is a DIYDVD that kinda sorta documents the band's 2001 tour. The sound is DIY (punkese for "crappy"), the picture quality is DIY (still punkese for "crappy"), and still somehow it's fun to watch. You should probably get lyric sheets off the Net before you do watch the thing, if you don't already know the songs, because there ain't noooo way you'll pick up the words from this. You'll pick up the energy and the entertainment value and you'll probably want to go see the band when they come to town. You'll also be surprised by the candid conversations, because they just look like they wanna devour your intestines. They're actually normal people. (NO!!!) Yes. Normal people with tattoos on the INSIDE of their skin, or so it seems.

There are a few extras, including a pair of budget videos filmed by Eddie Vedder and Kevin Schuss, an early live performance outdoors at the Seattle Center and footage of the guys onstage in bloodsoaked nightgowns. After talk of a breakup, Zeke still rule the Seattle punk scene, and they still sell out large clubs and small halls all over the world any day of the week. This will be more than appreciated by their many fans.
