THE BARNYARD PLAYBOYS
Corn Dog Love (Rubric Records)
Reviewed by Holly Day
You'd think living in Minnesota, I'd have a greater appreciation for corn
dogs, but as it is, the only food I like on a stick is chocolate-dipped
frozen bananas, and nobody sells those here. So I have a hard time relating
to the rollicking title track of this album, where maybe someone who
actually liked corn dogs might have an easier time with it. The rest of the
album is full of countrified rock songs about circus freaks, receiving
feces in the mail, and all the interesting things a curious explorer might
come across in the South, all delivered with the easy finesse of a band of
really talented neighborhood kids jamming in your back yard and having a
great time doing it.
