Forever linked to Britain's punk explosion, Siouxsie Sioux hasn't really been wailing like a Banshee for quite some time, but a place on the Johnny Rotten pierced nose nostalgia tour isn't in the cards just yet. Instead we have The Creatures: very much a music exploration project. This time around Siouxsie and longtime collaborator Budgie bring in taiko drummer master Leonard Eto for some big worldly beats and dreamy passages. There's a definite Japanese angle here, with some impressive soundscaping, but it all still comes down to that voice. Siouxsie's catty purr is one of rock's most distinct, and always a pleasure. A surprisingly strong record from a couple of supposedly has-beens.
