DUFUS
1:3:1 (FaerAway/ROIR)
Reviewed by John Sekerka
Record one of an ambitious five slab plan (3 live discs concluded by 1 final studio venture - ergo the title), 1:3:1 is certainly a head turner. Masterminded by one Seth Faergolzia, Dufus evolved from the latest Big Apple anti-folk scene as a helter skelterish orchestra of pomp and bombast. Whereas fellow scenesters Moldy Peaches carve out a minimalist path of righteous hip shaking yet deliciously subversive pop, Dufus go the over the top Zappa route: a kitchen sink of sounds, directions and hair. Ah yes, yet another hippie movement, thankfully not of the jam variety. Dufus certainly has the chops and adventurous spirit many seek. If you've been longing for an angular prog rock opera piece just itching for a slide show, then this is yer nirvana.
