Essra Mohawk's You're Not Alone begins with a solid blues rocker that shows off a tight band. The rhythm section of Sally Tiven on bass and Billy Block on drums provide a strong backdrop for producer Jon Tiven's lead guitar work. Mohawk's also known as "The Secret Diva" as she's been a songwriter more than a vocalist, particularly for Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, Lorrie Morgan, or Keb' Mo.' Mohawk nails some laid-back Memphis-styled soul, along with Bonnie Bramlett, on "The Moment," and Keb' Mo' plays guitar on my favorite blues track on this CD, "Don't Cry When It Rains," and I'm glad Essra picked up the microphone, in addition to the pen, for her Evidence CD, You're Not Alone.
