MAJESTIC 12
The Elvis Knob (independent)
Reviewed by DJ Johnson
I'd love to tell you all about this band, but I don't know anything about them other than the fact that they write and perform infectious indie pop that I, personally, keep popping into the CD player again and again. It's fun stuff, even if some of it sounds pretty familiar (you can't do a rapid-fire tune like "I Don't Have A Job" without drawing comparisons to R.E.M.'s "It's The End Of The World As We Know It"), and it really is an indie pop fan's delight with all these jangly guitars and uplifting vocal harmonies. They're true switch-hitters, equally strong with a whimsical acoustic piece (witness the at once fragile and powerful piano/vocal tune, "Sweet Patrice") or a full-on pop rocker (like the mysterious yet explosive "The Chevrolet"). I wish I knew more about them so I could pass along the info. This is going on my "favorite new bands" shelf, and I'll be asking around, so I'll know a whole lot more next time around.
