Pickin' On U2 Volume 2 (CMH)
Reviewed by Shaun Dale
As I've observed elsewhere, there's never a lack of talented players on the
CMH 'Pickin' On...' releases. That's certainly true here, with the likes of
Herb Pederson, Richard Greene and Kenny Blackwell tackling nine tracks from
the U2 catalog and a U2 inspired original by producer Mark Thornton.
The question is always whether the material is worthy of the treatment, and
in this case the answer is definitely affirmative. I'll be honest - when I
looked at the track list I was pretty doubtful they could pull some of this
off convincingly, but once they got through a totally engaging "Sunday
Bloody Sunday," I was completely sold.
Fans of fine country instrumental and fine Irish rock bands alike should
find plenty to like here.
Track List:
Even Better Than The Real Thing * Stay * I Will Follow *
Beautiful Day * Sunday Bloody Sunday * New Year's Day * October * Party Girl
* Angel Of Harlem * The Boys From Ireland
