THE REVILLOS
Jungle Of Eyes (Captain Oi!)
Reviewed by Alan Wright
This is a new CD of what was supposed to be the third
Revillos LP, which they recorded after releasing two
LPs, "Rev Up!" and "Attack!" I'm not sure why it
didn't get released, but hearing it now I can kinda
see why, because it's not that great. Compared to
their previous two releases, it's pretty poor,
suffering from terrible '80s production, a horrific
"gated" drum sound, really out of place horns on a
couple of tracks and cheesy '80s synths galore. It
simply doesn't have the wacky, care-free retro sound
of their earlier work, and sounds rather dated at
that. Maybe it was because it was going to be on a big
label, but they rerecorded a couple of my favorite
tracks from Attack, "Man Attack" and "Bitten By A Love
Bug," in unbelievably inferior fashion. Other songs
like "Call Me The Cat," The Vampire Strikes" and "The
Last One To Know" fared much better in rougher
versions found on the "From The Freezer" demos and
live collection. Overall, this is really a release
for Revillos completists only, but even those may have
a hard time finding much to write home about on this
CD.
