SAVOY-DOUCET CAJUN BAND
Best Of (Arhoolie Records)
Reviewed by Eric Steiner
The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band have been making music for over 22 years, bringing traditional Cajun music to the world. Ann Savoy, Marc Savoy and Michael Doucet have released four CDs on Arhoolie in their career, and this Best of collection is a great sampler of their work. This collection of 19 songs, many in Cajun French, feature Ann on guitar, Marc on accordion, and Michael on fiddle. They each share vocals, and there's quite a bit of bounce on this CD courtesy of Marc's accordion. Michael Doucet also leads Beausoliel, and playing with Ann and Marc gives him a chance to play more traditional songs that don't land on Beausoliel's set lists. Break out your favorite gumbo, put on the Best of the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band, and get ready to waltz and two-step! Marc and Ann will celebrate their 27th year of marriage next year, and I can't think of a better present than to buy their CD.
